Health worker dies after receiving Covid-19 vaccine in Bamyan

A health worker at the Bamyan Provincial Hospital died after he was injected Covid-19 vaccine in the central Bamyan province, local officials confirmed.

Confirming the death of the health worker, Latif Azimi, the spokesperson for Bamyan governor, told Kabul Now that the case was under analysis and it has yet to be clear whether the vaccine caused the death of the health worker.

According to him, the health worker had heart disease, lung problems, and as well blood pressure.

Dastgir Nazari, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Health, also confirmed that a group of doctors was investigating to find what exactly caused the death of the health worker in Bamyan. He also added that it was not yet clear that the health worker died from the Covid-19 vaccine.

Moreover, the health official said that a total of 12,164 health workers have already received the Covid-19 vaccine across the country. He added that they have received several cases of post-vaccination muscle and joint pains but not any death cases.

The government started vaccination on Tuesday, February 23, with a priority given to Afghan health workers, security forces, and journalists.
