Taliban intelligence chief killed in Nangarhar

Afghan commandos arrest Taliban intelligence head for Nangarhar

Afghan commando forces have arrested the Taliban intelligence head for Nangarhar province in Sherzad district of the eastern province, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) said in a statement.

Shafiqullah, a member of the Taliban’s intelligence wing, was arrested by the Afghan commandos, a statement issued today, Monday, March 29, said. Two other suspects were also caught, according to the statement.

On the other hand, five members of the People Uprising Force – a pro-government militia – were confirmed dead and three others wounded in a Taliban offensive in Khogyani district of the province.

Attaullah Khogyani, the spokesperson for Nangarhar governor, told Kabul Now on Sunday, March 28, that the Taliban militants also suffered casualties in clashes with the local pro-government militia but he did not provide a specific figure.

Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, claimed responsibility for the attack.

Located in the eastern part of the country, Nangarhar is a volatile province where the Taliban control swaths of territories and frequently launch attacks against government and pro-government forces.
