Two people including a Kabul University lecturer were killed when a magnetic bomb went off close to the university compound, a source told Kabul Now, today, Thursday, February 18.

The source, who talked on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Mubasheer Muslimyar, a sharia lecturer, was killed in this incident. He said the identity of the second victim remained unknown.

Earlier today, Ferdaws Faramarz, the spokesperson for the Kabul police, had told the press that Maruf Rasikh, another sharia lecturer, was also killed in the incident.

In July 2019, Muslimyar was arrested on suspicion of brainwashing students to join the Islamic State of Khurasan Province (ISKP). Afghan intelligence agency arrested the university lecturer over the alleged recruitment of students for the ISKP.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

A surge in targeted violence has intensified in the capital Kabul. The Afghan security officials blame the Taliban for violence but the group denies involvement in the attacks.
