NDS operatives arrest 15 Taliban assassins in Kabul

Operatives of the National Directorate of Security (NDS), Afghanistan intelligence agency, have arrested 15 Taliban militants who were assigned for targeted assassinations in Kabul, the NDS said in a statement issued today, October 06.

The militants were assigned by the militant group to assassinate Afghan defense and security forces, influential figures, and prominent politicians, as per account of the NDS.

The statement added that the assassins were organized in five and four membered groups to verify residence and routes frequented by Afghan forces, influential figures, and politicians in order to assassinate their targets.

This comes as Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission said in a report released on Sunday, September 04, that 533 civilians were killed and 412 others wounded only in targeted attacks in the first half of 2020 across the country.

Though Kabul has witnessed a reduction in complex attacks and suicide bombings after US-Taliban peace deal signed on February 29, it has seen a dramatic increase in targeted assassinations of government employees, mostly civilians, since then.
