MoI dismisses 46 Herat police officers

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has dismissed 46 personnel of Herat police department after an initial assessment, said Abdul Saboor Qaneh, deputy minister of interior.

Appearing in a press conference today, September 26, in Herat, Qaneh said that the officers were dismissed from different leadership and low level positions. He, however, did not comment about police chief of the province.

A number of them who were suspected of involvement in corruption are referred to police’s internal security office for interrogation, the deputy minister asserted, adding that the first round assessment was completed today, Saturday, September 26.

Qaneh further stated that others were dismissed due to incompetency, lack of capability, and holding the position for a long time.

According to the deputy minister, the ministry has already started new appointments of the eligible officers for the positions.

Situated in western Afghanistan, Herat has become insecure in recent years and witnessed growing violence by the Taliban and criminal bands.
