Young Man Stabbed to Death in Southern Afghanistan Amid Rising Mysterious Killings

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – A young man was stabbed to death by unknown assailants in Kandahar city, local sources reported, as mysterious killings continue to rise across Afghanistan, raising concerns about public safety under Taliban rule.

The victim, identified as 28-year-old Atta Mohammad, was attacked on Thursday in front of his home in Kandahar’s district two. He was critically wounded and later died from his injuries on Friday, the sources added.

The motive for the attack remains unclear, and the perpetrators have not been identified.

Local Taliban authorities in Kandahar have yet to comment on the incident.

The killing comes amid growing reports of extrajudicial, targeted, and mysterious killings across the country. Just two days earlier, another man was found dead in Nimruz province under similarly unclear circumstances.

Such incidents, along with armed robberies and other violent crimes, continue to fuel fear among Afghan citizens, compounding the challenges they face under Taliban rule.

Despite claims of nationwide security since their return to power, the Taliban face mounting criticism from residents, human rights organizations, and activists over their inability to protect civilians and the lack of transparency in investigating violent crimes.
