KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – A young man who was abducted last week in Herat province, western Afghanistan, was found stabbed to death, local sources said, amid a recent rise in kidnappings and mysterious killings across the country.
The sources told KabulNow that the victim, Naqibullah, was abducted after leaving a money exchange shop in Herat’s Khorasan Market, where he had exchanged approximately $10,000.
His body was found in the Jebrail area of Herat city and buried the same day in the Nawabad district, the sources said, adding that stab wounds were visible on his body, indicating he had been killed with a knife.
Taliban authorities have not publicly commented on the incident. However, sources said one person has been arrested in connection with the abduction and killing, and an investigation is ongoing.
The case follows two other reported abductions in Afghanistan over the past week. On Tuesday night, unidentified armed men abducted a dermatologist, Dr. Mohammad Dawood Hoshmand, in Kabul. Earlier, on Sunday, a two-and-a-half-year-old boy was reportedly abducted in the northern province of Balkh. Their whereabouts and fate remain unknown.
The recent increase in abductions, mysterious killings, and targeted attacks has raised concerns about deteriorating security in Afghanistan, despite Taliban claims of nationwide stability since their return to power.
