KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Three separate criminal rulings were enforced in Balkh, Nangarhar, and Uruzgan provinces after being approved by the Supreme Court.
In Balkh Province, the municipal primary court ruled that a man convicted of selling alcoholic beverages should receive a punitive sentence on (December 30), 2025. The court had sentenced him to one year and ten months of custodial imprisonment and 39 lashes. After confirmation by the Supreme Court, the sentence was publicly applied in the presence of judges, judicial members, administrative and service personnel, court security guards, religious scholars, passersby, and members of the public.
In Nangarhar Province, a person accused of adultery was sentenced on (December 30), 2025 by the Lal Pur district primary court. The court had previously sentenced the defendant to two years in prison and 39 lashes. Following approval by the Supreme Court, this punitive sentence was publicly enforced.
In Uruzgan Province, on (December 31), 2025, the primary court of Chaharchino district handed down sentences to six individuals charged with theft and sodomy and one individual charged with unlawfully entering another person’s home. Each was sentenced to between one and two years in prison plus 39 lashes. After confirmation by the Supreme Court, the sentences were publicly carried out.
