Local sources in Kandahar say that unknown armed men have killed a mosque imam in Spin Boldak district of the province.
According to the sources, the incident occurred at around 8:00 p. m. on Thursday (December 11) in the Sheed Bazaar area of Spin Boldak. The imam was reportedly returning home after performing evening (Isha) prayers when he was shot by unidentified gunmen and killed.
The victim has been identified as Mawlawi Aziz, the imam of the Sorgul Mosque in the Sheed Bazaar area.
Taliban local officials in Kandahar have not yet commented on the killing.
This is not the first such incident, as previous cases of mosque imams being killed have also been reported in Kandahar province.
