On World Children’s Day, the World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that 3.5 million children in Afghanistan are currently malnourished.
The agency says it is supporting children across the country by providing school meals to help them learn and develop, and by offering nutritional assistance in clinics to combat severe and moderate malnutrition.
In a statement on X, WFP, wrote: “Currently, 3.5 million children in Afghanistan are malnourished. Together, we can change this.”
Children and women remain among the most vulnerable groups in Afghanistan’s humanitarian crisis. Aid agencies says that with declining humanitarian funding, their situation is likely to deteriorate further.
Girls are presently barred from education, a restriction imposed by the Taliban that rights groups warn increases the risk of forced marriage and other forms of exploitation.
