UNICEF hosts London meeting on child nutrition crisis in Afghanistan

UNICEF has announced that it has hosted a meeting in London focused on child nutrition in Afghanistan. In a post on X on Monday (November 17), the UN children’s agency said representatives from the private sector, UN bodies, donors, and international financial institutions gathered to discuss local solutions for children’s “first foods” in Afghanistan.

According to UNICEF, the meeting explored ways to strengthen the role of mothers in feeding children at home and to ensure that producers provide safe, nutrition, and affordable food.

The discussion comes amid alarming figures from international organisations showing that more than 3.7 million children under the age of five in Afghanistan are suffering from acute malnutrition.

Meanwhile, humanitarian aid to Afghanistan has declined, forcing relief agencies to halt many programmes for vulnerable families.
