Kabul, Afghanistan – A shipment of humanitarian assistance from Turkmenistan has arrived in Balkh province to support victims of last week’s powerful earthquake that struck northern Afghanistan.
According to a statement from the Taliban’s provincial governor’s office in Balkh, the aid convoy was received on Saturday (November 8) at the Aqina border crossing. The shipment, valued at approximately 34 million Afghanis, includes both food and non-food items.
Noorul Hadi Abu Idris, the Taliban’s deputy governor for Balkh, expressed gratitude to Turkmenistan for its assistance and called for continued humanitarian cooperation between the two neighboring countries.
Bazaar Bai Kaabyov, Turkmenistan’s Consul General in Mazar-e-Sharif, described the aid as a reflection of his country’s commitment to humanitarian principles and responsibility toward its neighbors.
The 6.3-magnitude earthquake, which struck northern Afghanistan last Sunday nighta, caused severe damage in several provinces, with Samangan and Balkh suffering the most devastation. According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), 25 people were killed and 984 others injured in the disaster.
