Taliban Allegedly Shoot Dead Young Man from Daikundi in Balkh

Local sources have alleged that Taliban forces fatally shot a young man from Daikundi in the Ali Abad twonship of Mazar-e-Sharif, Balkh province. According to the sources, the victim, identified as Ali Khan Akbari, was killed on Thursday (November 27) after a Taliban officer reportedly fired six rounds at him.

Sources say the incident occurred following a dispute between the young man and his mother. After the mother contacted the local Wakil-e-gozar, Taliban personnel arrived at the scene. One officer allegedly opened fire, with all six bullets hitting the young man in the chest.

The motive for the shooting remains unclear. The Taliban officer reportedly claimed that Akbari was holding a knife and that he fired in “self-defence.” Another local source said the young man was angered by the Taliban’s involvement in a family dispute.

However, Mohammad Zaman Atrafie, a political figure from Daikundi, stated that the Taliban shot Akbari “simply for raising his voice” at them. Atrafie, who says the victim was his nephew, added that the shooting took place in front of Akbari’s mother.

Relatives say Akbari was the cousin of Aminullah Mali, who along with several family members, was killed by Taliban forces three years ago in the Siyuk and Shibar area of Daikundi.

According to a source, Akbari’s family has not fired a formal complaint, reportedly fearing repercussions.

The Taliban’s Balkh Police Command has denied the allegations. Mohammad Eisa Wasiq, spokesperson for the command, told KabulNow newspaper that “this incident is not true” and that no such killing had taken place.
