KABUL – Iranian Media report that nine Afghan migrants have been killed and seven others injured after a vehicle carrying “undocumented foreign nationals” crashed in Sistan-Baluchestan Province.
According to IRNA, the incident occurred on Tuesday (November 18), along the Saravan – Khash highway. Police in Sistan-Baluchestan said that a Peugeot 405 transporting undocumented migrants from Saravan to Khash veered off the road and collided with a truck.
Police confirmed that nine passengers died at the scene, while the injured were taken to hospital for treatment.
There have been several previous cases of Afghan citizens losing their lives in traffic accidents in Iran. Many Afghans resort to irregular and risky routes into Iran due to the lack of access to legal visas, and the high speed of smuggling vehicles often leads to fatal accidents.
