Teenage Girl in Sar-e-Pul Dies by Suicide After Brother Kills Her Lover

KABUL — A 17-year-old girl died by suicide after her brother killed the boy she loved in northern Sar-e-Pul province, local sources told KabulNow.

According to the sources, the girl, identified as Safia, hanged herself at her home in Takzaz village of Sancharak district on Saturday, October 4.

A day earlier, her brother had fatally stabbed Ahmad Wakil, the boy she was reportedly in a relationship with, in the Sancharak bazaar.

Sources said Safia and Ahmad Wakil had previously been arrested by the Taliban and sentenced to three months in prison for communicating romantically over the phone.

After his release from Taliban detention, Ahmad Wakil was killed by Safia’s brother, according to the sources.

Following the murder, Taliban authorities detained Safia’s father and elder brother.

Local Taliban authorities have not yet commented on the incident.
