Taliban Condemn U.S. Strikes on Iran’s Nuclear Facilities as Regional Tensions Mount

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The Taliban has condemned the United States’ recent airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, calling the attacks a clear violation of international law and an extension of U.S. support for Israel.

In a statement on Sunday, the Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the strikes and expressed deep concern over what it described as “the further escalation of instability in the region.”

The ministry added that “the violation of the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran is unacceptable,” and urged all parties to allow diplomacy to resolve the crisis.

The condemnation followed a dramatic overnight military operation by the United States, which struck three of Iran’s major nuclear enrichment sites—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan—using long-range bombers and precision-guided munitions.

The strikes were launched in the early hours of Sunday, marking a significant escalation on the tenth day of open hostilities between Iran and Israel. U.S. President Donald Trump described the operation as a “spectacular success,” while U.S. defense officials claimed that the mission had severely damaged Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.

Tehran, however, accused Washington of committing an act of aggression and warned that it reserves the right to respond.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the strikes as a “flagrant breach of the UN Charter,” adding that such attacks undermine regional peace and push the region closer to all-out war.

The strikes have sparked a wave of international condemnation. China and Russia criticized the U.S. action as reckless, while the European Union expressed alarm over the potential collapse of diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing further conflict. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said he was “gravely alarmed” by the developments and urged all sides to step back from the brink.

In Afghanistan, the Taliban regime’s reaction underscores growing concerns that the regional fallout of the Iran-Israel conflict could have far-reaching consequences. With Iran already engaged in retaliatory missile and drone attacks on Israeli targets, and tensions threatening to spill over across the Middle East, Taliban authorities fear a new wave of displacement, economic disruption, and security challenges.
