KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The National Resistance Front (NRF), an anti-Taliban armed group, says it has killed three Taliban members in an attack in Afghanistan’s western Herat province.
In a statement on X, formerly Twitter, the group said its fighters targeted a Taliban intelligence operative’s vehicle in the Nowabad area of Herat on Monday. It claimed three Taliban members were killed, and two vehicles were seized.
The NRF said no civilians were harmed, and none of its fighters suffered casualties.
The Taliban has yet to comment on this attack.
The group, which emerged following the Taliban’s return to power in August 2021, is made up largely of former security forces. It continues to fight the Taliban across several provinces.
In its annual report, the NRF claimed to have carried out 150 attacks in the past year, killing and injuring more than 400 Taliban members in 17 provinces.
Ahmad Massoud, the group’s leader, told CNN that the NRF has around 5,000 active fighters. He said their battle extends beyond the Taliban, as they are also confronting up to 20 other terrorist groups operating in Afghanistan.
