KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has welcomed the release of Faye Hall, an American citizen who had been imprisoned by the Taliban.
In a post on X on Monday, Rubio stated, “[President Trump]’s commitment to the American people is clear—we will not rest until all Americans detained in Afghanistan and hostages worldwide are brought home.”
The Taliban released Hall, a Chinese-American citizen, on Saturday evening, handing her over to the Qatari embassy in Kabul.
According to information obtained by KabulNow, Hall was arrested in February along with Peter and Barbie Reynolds, an elderly British couple, and their Afghan translator and driver. They were detained at Zarin airstrip in Yakawlang district, Bamyan province.
The Taliban later confirmed their arrests and transfer to Kabul.
While Hall has been freed, the fate of the British couple and their Afghan translator remains unknown.
Recently, the Taliban also released another American citizen, George Glezman, following mediation by Qatar.
After Glezman’s release, the U.S. government withdrew the $10 million bounty on Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Taliban’s acting interior minister.
Hall is the fourth American citizen freed by the Taliban since January under Qatar-mediated agreements.
