Germany Transfers 132 Afghan Refugees from Pakistan

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Germany has relocated 132 Afghan refugees from Pakistan as part of its ongoing evacuation efforts for vulnerable Afghans.

According to the German newspaper Bild, the flight carrying the refugees landed at Berlin Brandenburg Airport on Wednesday morning, March 5. Among them was a former local employee of the German government along with five family members, while the rest were admitted under various German resettlement programs for Afghan refugees.

German authorities confirmed that 25 individuals were unable to board due to issues with their documentation.

This latest transfer follows a similar flight last week, in which Germany evacuated 155 Afghan refugees from Pakistan.

Since the Taliban’s return to power in August 2021, Germany has relocated approximately 35,800 Afghans, including former employees of German institutions, human rights activists, journalists, and other at-risk individuals.

Despite these efforts, more than 3,000 approved applicants remain in limbo, awaiting their transfer to Germany. Many of them continue to face uncertainty in Pakistan, where Afghan refugees have encountered increasing restrictions, detentions, and deportations amid Islamabad’s crackdown on undocumented migrants.

Germany, along with other Western nations, has been under pressure from humanitarian organizations to expedite the resettlement of Afghans who had worked with international agencies and are now at risk under Taliban rule.
