10-Year-Old Girl Found Dead in Eastern Afghanistan Amid Surge in Mysterious Killings

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The body of a 10-year-old girl was discovered in eastern Nangarhar province, local sources report, raising concerns over a surge in mysterious killings across the country.

Sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, told KabulNow that the girl’s body was found in Kama district on Friday, February 14. According to the sources, she was stabbed to death, and her body was dumped in a wheat field, where local residents later discovered it.

The motive for the murder and the identity of the perpetrators remain unclear. Local Taliban authorities have not commented on the incident.

This incident comes amid a surge in mysterious killings and criminal activities across Afghanistan in recent years. The country’s citizens are increasingly concerned about their safety and security, which adds to the mounting challenges they face since the Taliban’s takeover, despite the Taliban’s claims of maintaining security.

According to KabulNow data, at least 20 people, including women and young girls, have been mysteriously killed across Afghanistan in recent weeks. A report by Rawadari, a London-based human rights group, documented 193 cases of killings and injuries in targeted, mysterious, and extrajudicial attacks over a six-month period. The victims included 181 men, nine women, and three children.

Rights groups and activists have accused the Taliban of neglecting their responsibility to provide security and failing to conduct thorough investigations into such killings.
