KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Three men were reportedly found dead in Nimruz, Parwan, and Helmand provinces over the past two days, amid the recent surge in mysterious killings across Afghanistan.
Local sources in southwestern Nimruz province reported today that a man identified as Abdul Nazir was killed by unidentified individuals in Khashrud district on Tuesday, December 31. The source said that Abdul Nazir was strangled with a rope, and signs of physical assault were visible on his body.
In Parwan, local Taliban authorities reported that a man named Farshid was shot dead by another man in Jabal Saraj district. The perpetrator fled the scene, and during a search of his house, authorities found hundreds of rounds of ammunition, two Kalashnikov-type weapons, a military uniform, and half a kilogram of drugs.
In Helmand, local sources confirmed that a young man named Ehsanullah was killed by unknown individuals in Nahr-e-Siraj district on Tuesday afternoon. The Taliban authorities have not yet provided any comment on this incident.
These three killings add to the surge in mysterious killings and criminal activities across Afghanistan. Citizens are becoming increasingly concerned about their safety and security, which only adds to the growing challenges they have faced since the Taliban’s takeover.
In its August report, Rawadari, a London-based human rights organization, documented at least 239 cases of mysterious, extrajudicial, and targeted killings, including those of women and children, across Afghanistan over a six-month period.
According to the report, the victims include former government officials, their family members, human rights advocates, tribal elders, and opponents of the Taliban regime.
