KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The Taliban intelligence agents have detained the son of a member of the former Afghanistan’s National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) in central Daykundi province, local sources reported.
The detained individual, identified as Samad Shirzad, was arrested on Thursday evening while returning home from Bamyan province, where he had participated in a seminar.
According to the sources, Shirzad’s father, Ghulam Hussain Ebrahimi, was the head of the National Directorate of Security in Daykundi’s Miramur district during the previous government. Following the collapse of the government and the Taliban’s return to power, Ebrahimi, like many former ANDSF members, fled to Iran due to fears of Taliban retaliation.
Samad’s fate and whereabouts remain unknown, raising concerns about his well-being. Sources noted that Shirzad had no known military or political activities.
Local Taliban authorities have not yet commented on the detention.
This incident follows another reported detention in Daykundi on Wednesday, where Taliban agents arrested two former ANDSF members, Mohammad Ali Tofan and Mohammad Amin, who are brothers. Their fate and location also remain unclear.
Despite declaring a “General Amnesty” upon returning to power, the Taliban has repeatedly violated it by arresting, torturing, and killing employees of the previous government, particularly former soldiers, and in some cases their family members.
The UN and various human rights organizations have repeatedly condemned the Taliban for alleged revenge killings and human rights violations, urging them to uphold the rights and freedom of all citizens of Afghanistan, including former security personnel.
