KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – A 15-year-old girl, identified as Masouda, has been fatally stabbed by unidentified individuals in Faryab province, northern Afghanistan, local sources reported.
According to the sources, the teenage girl was stabbed 10 times at her home in Qaisar district of Faryab on Wednesday night, December 4.
The motive behind the incident is still unclear, and the perpetrators have yet to be identified.
Taliban authorities have not commented on the incident.
This tragic incident adds to a recent surge in mysterious killings and criminal activities in Afghanistan under Taliban rule, adding to the mounting challenges faced by its citizens.
A week ago, two men, identified as Abdullah and Tawab, were found dead in southern Helmand province. Local sources reported that the men had been missing for a week before their bodies were discovered. The perpetrators of this incident also have yet to be identified and held accountable.
In its August report, Rawadari, a London-based human rights organization, documented at least 239 cases of mysterious, extrajudicial, and targeted killings, including women and children, across Afghanistan over a six-month period.
The actual number, according to the rights group, may be higher as it was unable to document all cases due to some families’ reluctance to disclose them and Taliban pressure on victims’ families to keep them private.
