NRF Claims to Have Killed 13 Taliban Members in Attack in Panjshir Province

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The National Resistance Front (NRF), an armed anti-Taliban group, claims to have killed 13 Taliban members and injured two others in Panjshir province, northeastern Afghanistan.

In a statement on X (formerly known as Twitter), the NRF said that its “freedom fighters” launched an attack on a Taliban military base in Darah district on Friday evening, October 4, inflicting significant losses on the “Taliban terrorists.”

“The targeted base was the Third Battalion of the Fourth Brigade, a special unit of the Ministry of Defense of the Taliban terrorist group, located in the village of “Mohammad Big Khil.”

The armed anti-Taliban group says that the attack was one of the deadliest against the Taliban in recent months and claims that its fighters suffered no casualties during the operation.

Taliban officials have yet to comment on this attack. The regime has previously avoided commenting on similar attacks in an effort to downplay the impact of armed resistance groups and their activities in Afghanistan.

The NRF and the Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF), largely composed of former government security forces, have engaged in deadly battles with the Taliban, particularly in the northern and northeastern provinces.

In recent months, both groups have intensified their guerrilla attacks against the Taliban across several provinces, with the majority of recent attacks occurring in the capital city of Kabul.

The AFF also reported two attacks in Kabul city and northern Kunduz province on Friday, claiming that its fighters killed at least five Taliban members and injured two others in these incidents.

In an interview with CNN last month, Ahmad Massoud, the leader of the NRF, said that his group has approximately 5,000 active fighters in Afghanistan and has conducted 207 operations this year.

He said that the armed group under his command is not only fighting the Taliban but also 20 other active terrorist groups in Afghanistan.

“Our fight isn’t just for Afghanistan; it’s for global security. Any nation that perceives terrorism as a threat must recognize the strategic necessity of supporting our cause and efforts,” NRF leader added.
