Explosion in Kabul Leaves 11 Injured, Including Women and Children

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – A blast in a bustling marketplace in Kabul has left at least 11 people injured, including women and children, according to officials at Emergency Hospital.

The explosion occurred around 2:00 PM local time on Wednesday, October 23, in a second-hand clothing market near the Pamir Cinema area in Police District 1.

Stefano Gennaro Smirnov, Deputy Country Director of Emergency Hospital in Afghanistan, stated that the injured include a three-year-old girl, a four-year-old boy, a 16-year-old boy, two women, and six men, with one victim in critical condition.

Smirnov noted that the blast happened as shoppers flocked to the market, triggering panic and chaos among the crowd. Most of the victims are believed to be from impoverished backgrounds,

While local residents quickly reported the explosion, Taliban security forces in Kabul have not yet commented on the incident.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

This explosion underscores the growing security concerns in Kabul, as Afghanistan continues to face ongoing violence and a deepening humanitarian and human rights crisis.
