39-Year-Old Man Found Dead in Central Bamyan Province, Taliban Reports

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The body of a 39-year-old man has been discovered in Bamyan province, central Afghanistan, according to local Taliban authorities.

In a statement, the office of the Taliban governor in Bamyan reported that the man, identified as Ghulam Mahdi, was found dead in the capital city early on the morning of Wednesday, September 18.

According to the Taliban statement, there are no signs of torture on the man’s body, which has been transferred to a local hospital for further investigation.

The motive behind the incident remains unknown. However, according to the Taliban statement, he was a farmer with no personal enmity with anyone or any group.

This marks the fourth case of mysterious killings in Afghanistan within the past two days. Earlier today, local sources in southern Kandahar province reported the mysterious killing of a community elder named Esmal in Panjwayi district.

Yesterday, a teenage boy was found dead in eastern Baghlan province, and the day before, a man was found dead in southern Kandahar province.

Based on KabulNow data, at least six other people, including a woman and a former soldier, have been killed under mysterious circumstances across Afghanistan in the past month alone.

The actual number could be higher, as many cases remain unreported due to the Taliban’s strict media restrictions and the reluctance of most families to disclose such incidents.

The previous incidents remain uninvestigated, and the perpetrators have not been identified.

The country’s citizens are increasingly concerned about their safety and security, which adds to the mounting challenges they have faced since the Taliban’s takeover, despite the Taliban’s claims of maintaining security.
