Taliban Intelligence Agents Imprison Panjshiri Father and Son in Kabul

Taliban intelligence agents have arbitrarily arrested and imprisoned a man and his son in the capital Kabul on Monday, July 15, sources said.

They hail from northern Panjshir province, a remote region north of Kabul.

The man, identified as Ahmad Shah and his son Mohammad Kazim, were detained in Khairkhana, a neighborhood located in the capital’s district 11, before being moved to a Taliban detention center.

Their fate and exact location remain unknown.

Shah had been recently discharged from a local hospital where he was undergoing health treatment, sources said.

The reason for their detention remains unclear. However, the Taliban have continued with their violent crackdown on residents of Panjshir province, which has escalated in recent months.

Rights groups, activists, and groups opposing the Taliban say that the regime’s suppressive behavior toward residents of Panjshir province amounts to war crimes.

The mountainous Panjshir Valley has defied Taliban rule after the group seized control over the province in September 2021, weeks after it overran Kabul, as the U.S. withdrew.

The Taliban have since detained, tortured, and killed hundreds of residents of the province, often accusing them of collaborating with armed anti-Taliban groups or possessing weapons.

Sources stated that Shah and his son worked a normal job in Kabul and had no ties to anti-Taliban groups.

The Taliban authorities have yet to comment on the matter.
