Armed Opposition Groups Report Multiple Attacks on Taliban in Kabul

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) and the National Resistance Front (NRF), armed resistance groups, have reported multiple attacks on Taliban forces in Kabul, claiming at least 14 Taliban members were killed or injured.

In a statement, the AFF announced that its “freedom fighters” targeted a Taliban mobile checkpoint at the Alauddin intersection in Kabul on the evening of Monday, June 24. This attack reportedly killed five Taliban members and injured two others.

In a separate statement, the AFF reported a second operation on the same day, in which its fighters attacked a Taliban security base in the Kart-e-Naw neighborhood of Kabul, resulting in the deaths of three Taliban fighters and injuries to one more.

Meanwhile, the NRF, another group resisting the Taliban since their return to power, reported that its fighters targeted a Taliban checkpoint in the Saray-e-Laghman area of Kabul. This attack reportedly killed two “Taliban terrorists” and injured another.

The armed groups highlights that none of their forces were injured or killed in these operations.

Taliban authorities have not yet commented on these attacks.

Since the Taliban took over Afghanistan, various opposition armed groups have emerged, with some still actively fighting the Taliban in multiple provinces. The Afghanistan Freedom Front and the National Resistance Front have been notably active, particularly in Kabul and the northern regions of the country.

Both groups, composed largely of former security forces, have engaged in numerous clashes with the Taliban. Recently, they have intensified their guerrilla attacks against the Taliban across Afghanistan.

While the Taliban downplay the impact of these armed groups and their attacks, the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, highlighted in his recent report that these groups carried out at least 43 verified attacks on Taliban forces during the past three months.

“The Afghanistan Freedom Front carried out 14 attacks, all of which took place in Kabul City, compared with the 24 confirmed attacks recorded in the previous reporting period,” said Guterres. “The National Resistance Front carried out 29 confirmed attacks, with 20 in Kabul, 6 in Takhar Province, 2 in Baghlan Province, and 1 in Parwan Province,” he added.

The AFF claims to have conducted 230 attacks against the Taliban over the past two years, stating that these attacks have resulted in the deaths of 600 Taliban members and injuries to 700 others.
