Explosion in Badakhshan Kills Four Taliban Members and Injures Five Others

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Local sources have reported that an explosion targeted a Taliban military convoy in the northeastern Badakhshan province, resulting in the deaths of at least four Taliban members and injuring five others.

According to the sources, the explosion took place around 11:20 am local time on Wednesday, May 8, in PD 3 of the capital city of Faizabad.

The images sent to KabulNow show that the explosion, caused by explosives placed in a motorcycle, targeted a Ranger-type military vehicle belonging to the Taliban.

Sources at Badakhshan Provincial Hospital have confirmed that four Taliban members were killed, while five others sustained injuries, with two of the injured individuals in critical condition.

No group or individual has taken responsibility for the explosion, and the Taliban authorities have not yet commented on the incident.

However, the Islamic State affiliate in Afghanistan, IS-KP, claimed responsibility for multiple attacks in the province last year, resulting in the deaths and injuries of dozens of Taliban members, including its deputy governor, Mahzdudin Ahmadi, and senior commander Safiullah Samim.
