The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that the attack on the country’s security personnel on 12 July in Zhob, Balochistan province, that killed 12 officers, was carried out by 3 people from Kandahar, Afghanistan.
According to the Expression Tribune, the Pakistani government has asked the Taliban’s embassy in Islamabad to receive the bodies of the attackers.
This comes days after a suicide attack in northwestern Pakistan killed at least 54 people.
Pakistan has repeated accused the Taliban of providing sanctuary to militants, especially to the Pakistani Taliban (TT), who have been carrying attacks across Pakistan. The Taliban has rejected the accusations.
On Tuesday, the Pakistani Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, called on the Taliban not to let Afghanistan’s soil be used by terrorist groups. And the country’s Foreign Minister, Bilawal Bhutto Zaradari, urged the Taliban to take action.
Pakistan has seen a sharp rise in the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan. According to Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), terrorist activities in the country has risen by 79 per cent since the beginning of the year.
