The National Resistance Front (NRF), an anti-Taliban armed group, has claimed that its forces have killed or injured 45 Taliban fighters in ongoing clashes in Badakhshan province.
NRF said in a statement on X Saturday that nearly two weeks ago, the Taliban launched offensive operations on the group’s positions across Badakhshan, including the districts of Shahada, Arghanj Khwa, and Shiwa.
In these clashes, NRF forces killed 18 Taliban fighters and injured 27 others, the statement claimed, adding that figures could be higher.
At least four NRF forces, including its Commander Tahir, were killed and two others wounded, the statement added.
The Taliban, the statement notes, deployed a large number of its fighters from the Kunduz Corps and Badri Special Units to aggressively suppress the NRF forces in the province.
The clashes continue sporadically and more causalities from both sides are feared.
NRF is an armed group formed of former security forces under the leadership of Ahmad Masoud, son of the Jihadi commander Ahmad Shah Masoud. The NRF has challenged the Taliban in deadly battles mainly in the north and northeastern provinces.
