Taliban’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP) has recently kicked off oil extraction from the Qashqari oil fields in the Amu Darya basin in the northern Sar-e-Pol province.
The Ministry said in a series of tweets that the inauguration ceremony was held on Friday.
The beginning of oil extraction from the Qashqari is a significant step for the development of the economy and provision of employment opportunities, Taliban’s Minister of Mines and Petroleum, Sheikh Shahabuddin Delawar, said in the ceremony.
Delawar stated that the ministry has begun oil extraction from well number 21 in the Qashqari oil fields which has the capacity to extract 70 tons of oil per day.
He added that work on 15 other wells is ongoing and would be ready until the end of the year which will together extract more than 1,000 tons of oil in a single day.
Earlier this year, the Taliban Ministry said that the Chinese Company will invest $162 million this year and $540 million in the next three years in the sector of crude oil extraction from the Qashqari oil fields.
