Qatari and UK foreign ministers discuss Afghanistan and international support

The Qatari Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and UK Foreign Secretary, James Cleverly, met on Tuesday to discuss bilateral relations and the latest developments in the region, including Afghanistan.

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that both sides discussed the situation in Afghanistan and the importance of international support for the people in the country.

The ongoing developments in Palestine, Syria, and the Iranian nuclear agreement were also matters of discussion in the meeting, the statement indicated.

Moreover, the two sides expressed their “deep” concerns about the worsening situation in the occupied West Bank.

This meeting comes shortly after the telephone call between US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, and the Qatari and Pakistani foreign ministers on Monday, who also discussed the situation in Afghanistan and ways to support its people.

Antony Blinken said in a tweet that he had a “good call” with his Pakistani counterpart, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, in which the two sides discussed regional concerns, including Afghanistan.
