Traffic accidents kill or injure several people in three provinces

At least three people were killed and several injured in separate traffic accidents in Maidan Wardak, Baghlan, and Nangarhar provinces.

In Maidan Wardak, at least one woman was killed and four others wounded when two cars collided on the Kabul-Kandahar highway in the Nirkh district, officials said Sunday.

Another accident in Baghlan took place when a car run over a child on the Kabul-Pul-e-Khumri highway in the Lalima area of Salang-e-Shamali.

A local source said that the child succumbed in the central hospital in Baghlan.

In Nangarhar, a senior Taliban member identified as Mawlawi Ismail was killed when his motorcycle crashed with a Suzuki car in the Achin district.

One local Taliban official said that Ismail succumbed to his injuries in a hospital.

He added that an investigation is ongoing to determine the motive behind the accident.

Traffic accidents have substantially spiked across the country. Poor road conditions, drivers’ carelessness, and non-compliance with driving regulations are key factors in traffic accidents in the country.
