Former judo champion Azad ul-Haq Naibzada has been found dead on a roadside in the main Baghlan-e-Markazi area of Baghlan province on Friday after being reported missing, said officials.
One source in the Department of Physical Education and Sports in the province said that Naibzada was murdered after being abducted from the Fabrik-e-Qand area of the Baghlan-e-Markazi ten days ago.
The judo athlete was a gold medalist in Kurash, a form of ancient wrestling, and was part of the national judo team in Afghanistan.
The motive behind the killing of Naibzada is unclear.
Taliban officials in Baghlan have not commented yet.
