Afghanistan Receives 40 Million USD in Cash Aid

Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB), Afghanistan’s central bank which is currently operating under the Taliban rule, announced that a cash package of 40 million USD has arrived in Kabul in humanitarian aid from the international community on Tuesday, October 18, 2022.

Afghanistan has so far received 12 packages worth 40 million USD and more than 30 packages worth 32 million USD as humanitarian aid.

According to the DAB statistic, the total amount of cash aid from the international community after the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan has reached more than 1 billion and 433 million USD.

This amount of money is kept in a private commercial bank.

So far, there is no information about how this money is being spent.

The Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) says that the aid is deposited in a commercial bank and will not be given to the Taliban.

After the Taliban returned to power, Afghanistan’s foreign assets were frozen and the government’s access to international banks were blocked. This restriction resulted in a liquidity crisis and led to a decline in the value of Afghanistan’s national currency, Afghani.
