As many as five people, including two security men, were killed and two others wounded after convoy of Sayed Dawood Naderi, head of Ismaili Council in Afghanistan, hit a roadside bomb and then came under Taliban attack in Baghlan province.
Two security guards were killed and two others were wounded after the convoy hit the roadside bomb, said Jawid Basharat, spokesperson for Baghlan province.
The incident took place on Tuesday, July 27, around 11:00 AM in Dushi district of the northern Baghlan province, the local official detailed.
The wounded are already transferred to a hospital in Pul e Khumri, provincial capital for Baghlan, for medical treatment, he added.
According to Besharat, following the roadside blast a group of Taliban militants attacked Naderi’s convoy but security forces repelled the militants’ attack.
The local official confirmed that Taliban suffered casualties but he did not provide an exact figure.
Zahra Farkhunda Naderi, a member of High Council for National Reconciliation and a close relatives of Sayed Dawoud Naderi, meanwhile, said five people were killed and two others were wounded as the result of the incident.
The Taliban has not yet commented on the incident.
Baghlan is a volatile province, where the Taliban controls swathes of territories including Dushi district.
