Airstrike kills 26 Taliban militants including three senior commanders

As many as 26 Taliban militants, including three senior commanders of the group, were killed and 33 others wounded in an airstrike conducted by the Afghan Air Force last night, Friday, April 02, in the northern Faryab province.

Talking to Kabul Now, Mohammad Hanif Rezae, the spokesperson for the 209 Shaheen Military Corps, said that the airstrike targeted a large gathering of the militant group in Sarchakan village belonging to the Gurziwan district of Faryab province.

Qari Mujibulrahman Arab, Mullah Attaullah, and Qari Shekib were the three Taliban commanders killed in the airstrike, Mr. Rezae said. He noted that weapons, munitions, and vehicles of the militant group were destroyed in this operation.

The Taliban suffered a casualty in southern Kandahar too.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Defense (MoD) said that 18 Taliban militants were killed during a military operation in Jalawar and Tabin villages of Arghandab district. The Afghan defense and security forces defused 13 landmines planted by the Taliban in these areas.

The army forces also hit a Taliban car bomb while it was heading to reach its target in Arghandab district, the MoD added.

Afghanistan has seen an unprecedented escalation of violence in recent days. The violence has claimed scores of lives, including civilians.

As many as 10 people were killed, including civilians, and 40 others wounded yesterday, Friday, April 02, in eight provinces.
