As many as nine people including two operatives of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) were killed and 11 others wounded in a Taliban attack in Patoo district of the central Daikundi province, a local official confirmed.
Nurullah Ahmadi, deputy district governor of Patoo, confirmed that 11 people including seven NDS operatives and three civilians were wounded and 100 families were displaced after the district came under the Taliban attack.
Talking to Kabul Now, Ahmadi said that the Taliban launched their attacks on February 18, around 04:00 AM on Esparmi village of the district, and lasted for around two hours. He added that the militants looted domestic animals and the house belongings of the villagers.
The Taliban militants have retreated from the village and the village is currently under the control of the government forces, according to Mr. Ahmadi. “Still there is a possibility of Taliban attacks on Esparmi or other bordering points.”
The Taliban, however, have not commented regarding the incident.
Situated in the central part of the country, Daikundi is relatively secure but in recent years Patoo and Kijran districts of the province have come under sporadic and deadly attacks by the Taliban militants.
On Wednesday, February 17, five army soldiers, including a Company Deputy Commander, were killed and two others wounded after a roadside bomb, planted by the Taliban, hit their riding Humvee vehicle in Kijran district of the province.
