As many as six people including five security forces were killed in two separate incidents in the western Herat province, according to local officials.
Four security forces were killed in a Taliban attack in Adraskan district of the western Herat province.
Sayed Abdul Wahid Qatali, Herat governor, confirmed that the incident took place last night on Sunday, February 21.
Turyalai Taheri, deputy head of Herat Provincial Council, expressed concern about the intensification of the Taliban’s attacks. He called on the government to take action against Taliban attacks.
A local security source, on condition of anonymity, told Kabul Now that unknown gunmen targeted a vehicle which was carrying the regional deputy head of National Directorate of Security (NDS) in PD12 of Herat city, leaving two people including a personal guard and the driver of the deputy’s head dead. The regional deputy head of NDS was safe and sound, according to the source.
The Taliban has not commented on the incident so far.
Located in the west of the country, Herat is relatively safe but the Taliban militants are present in part of the province.
On February 17, two police forces were killed and three others wounded after their riding vehicle hit a roadside bomb in the Rozanak area of the western Herat province.
