Taliban release 15 government forces

The Taliban have released 15 government forces. In a tweet posted today, Thursday, July 09, Suhail Shaheen, a spokesperson for Taliban Qatar office, said the Taliban have released 15 Afghan security forces who were kept under Taliban custody in the central Ghor province.

Prisoner swap between the Afghan government and the Taliban is part of the US-Taliban peace deal, which was signed by the two sides late in February 2020 in Doha, Qatar. According figures published by the Afghan government, as many as 4,015 Taliban prisoners have been released up to now, and in return, the Taliban have freed 875 prisoners of the government in different provinces.
