Next Afghan president will take office in coming weeks, says Ghani

Addressing the Afghan defense and security forces, President Ghani said, “The new president, elected by clean votes of the Afghan people, will swear in within coming three weeks.” He added that the responsibility to announce who will be the next president lies with the electoral commissions.

Ghani makes these remarks while the Independent Election Commission (IEC) said that preliminary result of the presidential poll held on September 28 will be announced on October 19 and the final result on November 17.

Chief Executive Abdullah who is said to be the main rival of Ghani previously claimed victory in the election. He claimed that his team will lead the next government.

Following Abdullah’s remarks, the IEC said that the winner of the election will be announced by the commission and no candidate is allowed to claim premature victory.
