Man Killed by Armed Robbers in Eastern Afghanistan Amid Rising Violent Crime

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Armed robbers shot and killed a baker inside his shop in eastern Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province on Thursday morning and fled with cash and the victim’s motorcycle, local sources reported.

The victim, identified as Sultan, was attacked in the eighth district of the provincial capital Jalalabad, the sources said. The assailants entered the bakery, opened fire and killed him before taking an amount of cash and his motorcycle and fleeing the area.

Local Taliban authorities have not commented on the incident.

The killing comes amid a recent rise in reports of violent crime, armed robberies and targeted attacks across Afghanistan. Similar incidents have been reported in several provinces in recent weeks, raising concerns over public safety.

The Taliban, who claim to have restored security nationwide since returning to power, face growing criticism from citizens, human rights groups and activists over their ability to protect civilians and their lack of transparency in investigating such crimes.
