The Collapse of a House Roof in Nangarhar Claims the Life of a Woman

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The Taliban’s police command in Nangarhar has announced that a woman has died and two children have been injured after the roof of a house collapsed in Ghani Khil district.

Sayed Tayyeb Hamad, spokesperson for the Taliban police command in Nangarhar, said that the incident occurred last night (Sunday, March 29) in the “Vial 25” area of Ghani Khil district as a result of rainfall.

He added that another house also collapsed in Nazyan district due to rainfall, leaving two people injured.

Similar incidents have been reported in other provinces. Two months ago, in southern Kandahar, four members of a family—including an elderly man and three children—were killed when the roof of their house collapsed after heavy rainfall in Daman district. Local sources and Taliban authorities said the building’s poor condition and prolonged rain contributed to the tragedy.

Several other collapses of roofs or walls have also been reported during the current winter season in provinces including Nangarhar and Kunduz.

Recent rainfall in various provinces of the country has caused significant casualties and damage. According to statistics released yesterday by the Taliban’s disaster management authority, at least 17 people have died and 26 others have been injured due to rainfall across the country.

These incidents highlight the increasing vulnerability of communities to extreme weather conditions, particularly in areas where housing structures are not resilient to heavy rain. Limited infrastructure, lack of proper drainage systems, and ongoing humanitarian challenges continue to worsen the impact of such natural disasters on civilians across Afghanistan.
