Tajikistan Says Two Cross-Border Attacks Launched from Afghanistan in Past Week

The office of the President of Tajikistan says that two attacks originating from Afghan territory were carried out inside the country over the past week.

In a statement released on Monday (December 1), the presidential office reported that five people were killed and five others wounded in the incidents. President Emam Ali Rahman strongly condemned the attacks and instructed security officials to take effective measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The latest statement does not mention the deaths of Chinese nationals. However, Tajikistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs had earlier announced, on Thursday, that three Chinese citizens were killed in the Khalton province in an armed attack launched from Afghanistan. According to the ministry, the attack targeted employees of the “Shaheen SMLLC” company and involved small arms as well as a drone carrying a grenade.

Tajik authorities have not yet released details about the second attack or the nature of the operation.

The Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attack on Chinese nationals, denying any involvement from Afghan territory, and expressed readiness to fully cooperate with Tajikistan in the investigation.

China has confirmed the deaths of its three citizens and urged all Chinese nationals to leave the border region between Afghanistan and Tajikistan.
