KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The National Resistance Front (NRF), an armed anti-Taliban group, said on Friday that it killed three Taliban fighters during a failed attack on its base in northern Baghlan province.
In a post on X, the NRF said Taliban forces launched a heavy assault on its positions in Nahrin district, which was met with a strong counterattack by its fighters. The group added that after suffering significant losses, the Taliban were forced to retreat, and during their withdrawal, they killed an “innocent shepherd.”
The NRF stated that none of its fighters were killed or injured in the clash.
The armed group said its fighters remain determined to defend their positions and continue their fight to free the Afghan people from Taliban rule.
The Taliban have not commented on the incident or its casualties.
The NRF was formed after the Taliban returned to power in August 2021. The group is largely composed of former members of Afghanistan’s security forces and has waged an armed campaign against the Taliban, especially in Panjshir, Kabul, and surrounding provinces. It frequently claims deadly attacks on Taliban fighters across Afghanistan.
In its annual report last year, the NRF said it conducted 150 targeted operations in 17 provinces during the solar year 1402 (March 2023–March 2024), claiming more than 400 Taliban casualties.
