India’s Ministry of External Affairs announced that the country has provided 63,734 doses of influenza and meningitis vaccines to Afghanistan. Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the ministry, wrote on X that the shipment was handed over in Kabul on Thursday (December 4).
He added that India remains committed to supporting public health in Afghanistan.
Last Friday, India also supplied 73 tones of medicines, vaccines, and essential supplements to Afghanistan.
The latest assistance comes as the Taliban have halted the import of medicines from Pakistan and expanded engagement with India, including in the pharmaceutical sector. According to agreements made during the Taliban Minister of Industry and Commerce’s recent visit to New Delhi, several Indian companies are expected to explore opportunities for pharmaceutical production in Afghanistan.
In addition, an Afghan company signed a US$100 million agreements with an Indian firm last week for the import and production of medicines in Afghanistan.
