Honor Killing: Woman in Jowzjan Reportedly Killed by Her Brother

The Taliban’s police command in Jowzjan province says a woman has been killed by her brother in Aqcha district in what officials describe as an “honor-related” incident.

According to Abdul Sattar Halimi, spokesperson for the Taliban’s provincial police command, the victim was around 32 years old and was shot dead with a pellet firearm. He added that the perpetrator had been arrested in the fifth district of Sheberghan, the provincial capital.

The police statement did not provide further details regarding the identities of the victim or the suspect, nor did it elaborate on the specific motive behind the killing.

Honor killings in Afghanistan typically involve women and girls who are murdered by relatives under the pretext of protecting “family honor.” There are no reliable nationwide statistics on the scale of such cases, but incidents continue to be reported from time to time.
