The humanitarian office of the European Union for Asia-Pacific says that 21 million people in Afghanistan do not have access to safe drinking water.
In a post on x on Monday (December 22), the office said that years of war and worsening climate conditions have made water increasingly scarce across the country.
The EU’s humanitarian arm added that, with its support, the organization International Solidarity is installing wells and hand pumps in Afghanistan so that families can access clean drinking water close to their homes.
Afghanistan has experienced consecutive years of drought, which have significantly depleted groundwater levels and made access to safe drinking water increasingly difficult.
