Richard Lindsay, the United Kingdom’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan, says that Afghanistan cannot move forward unless restrictions on women’s education, employment, and fundamental freedoms are lifted.
In a post on X on Thursday (November 27), Lindsay said he held an online discussion with a group of women from various provinces of Afghanistan to learn about their experiences and the challenges they face under current conditions.
He noted that the resilience of Afghan women remains a source of inspiration.
Since returning to power, the Taliban have banned girls above grade six from attending school and have closed universities to women. The group has also prohibited women from working in government institutions and restricted their employment in national and international NGOs, alongside imposing wide-ranging limits on women’s public participation.
